/Going back to your hometown is weird, right?
I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and somehow even though I’m now 32 years old, the minute I step out of my car my parents want to know who I’m texting late at night, get all ruffled up if I use a 4 letter word like distressed little chickens, and make my boyfriend sleep in a separate bedroom. Parents, am I right?
But my favorite part about coming home remains the same: thrifting with my momma.
It’s one of our rituals. We wander rows and rows of trash and treasure, searching for conversation pieces and diamonds in the rough.
And once you’ve committed to trying to go zero waste, you get an involuntary master’s degree on buying pre-owned or vintage and dodging the consumerist machine as much as possible. It becomes your new normal.
Today we’re delving into my favorite consignment and used stores in Jacksonville. Read on for a quick rundown of all things weird, wacky, old, pre-owned, and fabulous.
Chamblin’s Uptown
The downtown half of Chamblin’s Bookmine is basically my favorite spot in Jacksonville. While their Riverside location was one of my high school haunts, adult me loves the endless rows of used books at the convenient downtown location. The best part, aside from the coffee shop and cafe (it’s also vegan friendly), is the playful vibe.
Chamblin’s Uptown’s “Blind Date with a Book” makes for a perfectly playful impulse buy. Paperbacks are wrapped to conceal their identity and one line of text from the book is written on the front along with the genre.
The also host poetry nights, open mic sessions, and blackout poetry workshops to get you inspired and thinking creatively. What’s blackout poetry? Participants create poetry by coloring out or placing designs over all the words on a given book page EXCEPT for the ones they’ll use to create a new poem.
I could literally spend hours here!

That Poor Girl Vintage
In quest of quality and stylish vintage clothing? Check out That Poor Girl Vintage for a delightfully curated collection of classic and whimsical pieces. From white and pink star-spangled boots to colorful crocheted crop tops and saucy Girl Scout shirt dresses, the racks abound with conversation pieces... as do the walls, one of which sports an Instagram-worthy collage of brightly colored boobs.
That Poor Girl Vintage owner Tori is a warm and personable tour guide through her bright and funky treasure trove of vintage frocks and the space itself is sure to make you smile. Fans and Stoves Antique Mall
Longtime Jacksonville favorite Fans and Stoves Antique Mall may have relocated but they still have a cult following. Now located around the corner from their previously iconic storefront, you’ll still find the same rich hodgepodge of booths offering everything from coveted Pyrex and vintage Tupperware to sparkling cases of rhinestone costume jewelry to antique dolls fit for a horror movie.
My favorite thing about Fans and Stoves is how perfectly it walks the line between quality antiques and junky thrift heaven. While the vendors in the booths may vary, Fans and Stoves has long been known for having an eclectic collection of oddities and real gems, all at reasonable prices. I’ve recently snagged glass fridgies in perfect condition with the original top featuring etched asparagus (BE STILL MY OLD LADY HEART) for my plastic-free food storage and while evacuating from Hurricane Florence, my girl and hostess extraordinaire Kendra over at A Crunchy Peach scampered off with retro plastic drink markers and my God but my case of envy just won’t quit. Fortunately, I’ve hand-picked some similar options from the Internet for you lovelies below.

Eco Relics
As a devoted HGTV lover, if I lived in Jacksonville, Florida I would never leave Eco Relics. The architectural salvage warehouse is filled with reclaimed and discounted building materials and rows upon rows of antique building elements. The entire place is Chip and Joanna Gaines’ dream playground. Come prepared to spend at least an hour.
Anyone looking to remodel or get creative in their home will quickly lose themselves along the aisles and aisles of gorgeous vintage doors, retro light fixtures, reclaimed barn wood, live edge wood slabs, and retro tiles. Looking for mid-century lamps? They’ve got that. Farmhouse sinks? Yup. Custom-crafted woodworking? Yes, they’ve got a woodshop too.
I love seeing a company so devoted to rounding up chic and one-of-a-kind architectural or design elements, born out of their love for the planet and reducing waste.

Good Eye House + Style
This neighborhood gem is a beautiful blend of edgy mid-century and vintage pieces and new items. Part upscale antique store, part gift shop, and part carefully curated designer vintage clothing, Good Eye House + Style is quickly addictive. I tried on a gorgeous 1950s Yves Saint Laurent black belt with intricate buttons… and then promptly renewed my vow to abstain from pizza (for like two days).
When I decided to write this piece, I tried so hard not to include anywhere that also sells new things, but the selection at Good Eye House + Style is just That Damn Good. I wanted to buy everything they had, but especially their adorably kitschy 1950s aprons and mid-century glassware. This one is a must-go-shop.

Avonlea Antiques
Any antique mall with a cafe is a winner in my book. A cuban sandwich with a side of vintage Pyrex? THAT’S IT I’M MOVING IN.
Not only does Avonlea Antiques boast an expansive and varied maze of antique booths, this antique mall has a delicious cafe with surprisingly delicious offerings, making it the perfect girls’ afternoon out. It’s one of my favorite things to do with my mom when I go back to my hometown. We lunch and hunt for treasures: a Cuban sandwich and vintage kitchen appliances for me, a salmon salad and hand cross-stitched linens for mom. (She uses them as hand towels in her guest bathroom, which is kind of brilliant.
Avonlea Antiques has a solid range of vendors covering everything from heaps of retro toys begging for a committed thrifter to vintage clothing and expensive antiques. They’ve long had several booths featuring quality vintage kitchen items (think hand coffee grinder, glass fridgies, and bread boxes) and authentic farmhouse items, and I beeline for those.

Revolve Full Circle Fashion
My favorite place to buy contemporary second-hand clothing is hands down Revolve in San Marco in Jacksonville, Florida. Here you’ll find a gorgeous, easily shoppable selection of like-new contemporary fashion without any of the mess and clutter that plagues many consignment stores, and the stock is always in top condition and still very much in style.
(Note to other stores: when your racks are packed so tight that I can’t look through them without elbowing and contorting my way between a crop top and shift dress on the rack to see what they are, I’m probably going to get annoyed and not buy. Follow Revolve’s lead on this one and stock your stores comfortably.)
Expect to find last season’s J.Crew alongside Diane Von Furstenberg and Madewell at this clean and airy boutique and a really great array of accessories as well.
The prices are reasonable for the level of quality and the labels you’ll find, as this is a true consignment experiences rather than a thrift store.

Consignment Barn
I’m pretty picky when it comes to my consignment furniture, so including Consignment Barn on this list should tell you something. I’ve consistently found distinctive, stylish, and reasonably priced pieces in fabulous condition at this spot. The selection will range from traditional crystal chandeliers, mid-century chairs, rustic side tables, retro signage, and pristine antique banquet tables.

Antique Market of San Jose
The Antique Market of San Jose is somewhere between mid-range and upscale antiques. The booths have a wide array of objects and items at median prices, but you’ll find none of that thrifting or junk store dust or clutter here. Those who hate thrifting but love buying choice vintage pieces will feel right at home. Look for rustic, industrial, and stylish antiques here, perfect for accenting modern homes or selecting eye-catching conversation pieces.
My personal favorites are the rustic farmhouse odds and ends and signage, but this is an extensive and maze-like antique mall, so come prepared to spend some time.

Honorable Mention: Freaky Antique-y in Saint Augustine, Florida
If you decide to take a day trip down to St. Augustine, those with an appetite for funky and edgy vintage items should drop in Freaky Antique-y on the way. This delightful haven teeters on the edge of junk shop but the selection of action heros, comic books, vinyl, Day of the Dead paraphernalia, and vintage pin-up calendars make it work. I picked up a tiny set of stained glass bananas to hang from my rearview!
